Key-based attachment was introduced in March 2010 and has now been further enhanced. It offers an alternative to the MagTec, VacTec and ChainTec attachment methods. • easy to store and transport - just two main items and a tool bag; all hand-portable; fit easily in the boot of any car
• fast to deploy - trolley unfolds in seconds; no assembly of parts; but the keyholes need to be cleaned out
• works on any cover - with key slots or threaded inserts; all shapes, sizes and compositions, including split covers,
• is efficient and flexible - the cover unseating facility and rotating lifting hanger ensure high productivity
• is fast yet safe - the operator stands well clear of the raised cover and the chamber opening; safe hands, safe feet
   

At the heart of the KeyTec configuration is a load spreader bar which sits on top of the cover and attaches through threaded lifting keys. The spreader bar is fitted with the same rotating lifting hanger as all Manhole Buddy cover attachments. A combined tool bag is now supplied for the folded spreader bar, the lifting keys and the high leverage lifting hook. The bag has long handles so that most persons can carry it on their shoulder.

In the sequence of pictures below, the spreader bar is positioned and the lifting keys fitted. The cover is unseated using the high leverage lifting points on the trolley, connecting to the end loops on the bar through the lifting hook. The cover is raised and pivoted clear of the chamber. The operator has remained clear of the suspended load and the chamber opening, throughout. The new folding spreader bar is constructed and operates along the same lines

Three lifting key types are offered.

The narrowest is 20 mm wide with an ‘L’ shaped blade. This suits the rectangular slots generally found on light duty covers.

‘T’ profile keys are offered in 25 and 35 mm widths. This type of key is the most common on heavy duty covers.

Custom keys can be supplied for covers with threaded inserts but an appropriate-sized high tensile set-bolt is often a practical alternative.
